A.J. McCarron Expected To Return As Raiders Backup QB

According to Raiders HC Jon Gruden, backup QB A.J. McCarron is expected to return for the 2019 season, per Vic Tafur

McCarron is owed a $3 million roster bonus coming up on March 17, so you can expect Oakland to pick this up in the coming weeks.

McCarron, 27, is a former fifth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2,401,652 contract and made a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season and was testing the free agent market for the first time in his career.

McCarron won a grievance against the Bengals that stemmed from the team’s decision to place him on the non-football injury list (NFI) at the start of training camp due to a shoulder issue during his rookie year, which allowed him to test the free agent market as an unrestricted free agent last offseason.

The Bills later signed McCarron to a two-year, $10 million contract before trading him to the Raiders last year for a fifth-round pick.

In 2018, McCarron appeared in two games for the Raiders and completed 1 of 3 pass attempts for eight yards and no touchdowns.
