A Number Of Wide Receivers On The Rams Chopping Block

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the St Louis Rams are considering cutting some of the recent draft picks as the first round of roster cuts nears.
Thomas specifically mentions Austin Pettis  and Greg Salas, who were taken in the third and fourth round respectively, as well Danario Alexander and Mardy Gilyard as being “on the bubble.”  Thomas adds that Danny Amendola, Donnie Avery, Brandon Gibson and Mike Sims-Walker are all “safe and sound.”

All four of the players that are on the bubble have been with the team for less two years so it’s pretty interesting to see them consider passing on young players that they drafted.

ESPN’s Mike Sando gives his take on the Rams potential receiver cuts.

Donnie Avery, Mardy Gilyard and Danario Alexander are the ones most likely fighting for a roster spot at this time, in my view,” writes Sando. “Avery and Gilyard appear to have the best chance in part because Alexander’s chronic knee problems raise questions about his ability to hold up over time. Avery and Gilyard also made more of their opportunities in the game against Tennessee. Both need to play well, however, because the team could always bring back Mark Clayton once Clayton’s surgically repaired knee has healed sufficiently.”
