Browns
Browns QB Baker Mayfield is yet to meet any of the new additions to the team’s roster in person but is looking forward to creating chemistry with his new teammates. The players have met online during virtual team meetings, and Mayfield notes that it has been an interesting process that has brought the team together.
“It’s been interesting to see everyone come together,” Mayfield said, via Anthony Polsal of ClevelandBrowns.com. “It’s brought a lot of people together, families included. We’ll be ready to get back to work. That’s the mentality of the guys. We can tell.”
Ravens
Ravens’ director of player personnel Joe Horitz admitted that Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh is an “asset” to their scouting department, given his experience in the Big Ten and relationship with his brother, John Harbaugh.
“Itโs definitely an asset,โ Hortiz said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.
Hensley points out that the Ravens have selected three Michigan players since Harbaugh’s arrival in 2015, including DL Willie Henry, DE Chris Wormley, and fourth-round OL Ben Bredeson.
“Leader by example and vocal, no-nonsense, all football all the time, really motivated, very competitive guy,” wrote Harbaugh in Bredson’s scouting report to the Ravens.
Hortiz mentioned that the Ravens and Michigan have similar “philosophies” and held numerous football clinics together.
โThey know what weโre about and itโs great,โ Hortiz said.
Bredeson said there are “glaring similarities” to Michigan and the Ravens’ playbook and program organization.
“Each of them has their own tweaks to how they run their own program, but you can definitely see a lot of glaring similarities between the two,โ Bredeson said. “The way the playbook is set up, the way the program is being run, their mannerisms; a lot of them are the same. Itโs comforting for me knowing that Iโm still in the Harbaugh family.โ
Steelers
- The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly thinks the Steelers will look to trade for or add a nose tackle during the preseason or after roster cuts, as they don’t exactly have an established replacement for DT Javon Hargrave.
- Steelers HC Mike Tomlin said they did not waste time in their rookie minicamp with exercises they couldn’t accomplish due to regulations: “We wasted very little time this weekend lamenting about what we aren’t able to do.” (Brooke Pryor)
- Tomlin mentioned that the Steelers are not evaluating their rookies and only focusing on how players are learning through their virtual system. (Pryor)
- Tomlin added that he supports “competitive fairness” and feels all 32 teams should re-open practice facilities at the same time. (Gerry Dulac)
