AFC Notes: Broncos, Browns, Colts, Jets

Broncos

  • Ian Rapoport reports that there’s currently no firm word regarding the status of Broncos HC Vance Joseph.
  • However, Broncos executive VP John Elway wants “very badly” to make this situation work with Joseph and he understands what they gave Joseph and his staff to work with at the quarterback position.
  • Even so, Rapoport mentions that this is still a situation worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks.

Browns

Jason La Canfora reports that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam courted Peyton Manning as a potential team president.

A high-ranking AFC executive tells La Canfora that the Browns’ decision to conduct their GM search while keeping Sashi Brown in place is just another example of poorly the team is managed.

“They can’t get out of their own way,” said the execs. “They keep doing everything half-assed, backwards.

Colts

  • According to Ian Rapoport, no one would be surprised if Colts HC Chuck Pagano is out in Indianapolis once the season is over.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini writes that the Jets are expected to release veteran DL Muhammad Wilkerson by next March.
  • This fits with a recent report from a few days ago that Wilkerson is unlikely to be back with the team in 2018. (NFLTR)
  • Last weekend, the Jets benched Wilkerson for the first quarter of Sunday’s game for showing up late to a meeting. Cimini reports that Wilkerson was also fined “quite substantially.
