Bills LT Dion Dawkins was asked if he had any expectations for QB Josh Allen this season and noted that there should be no questions about Allen’s play and more about what the team around him can do to help win the team a Super Bowl with Allen at the helm.

“I don’t have any [expectations],” Dawkins said on NFL Network. “I don’t add any more extra pressure to that kid that he already has. Josh understands what he’s doing, what he’s not doing. He understands what the mindset is and what we all expect. Just like we know what Josh expects from us, as well, to help him get there. When it comes down to it, Josh is Josh, and he’s gonna be Josh. He’s No. 1 for a reason, so I don’t think that we need any more expectations than we already have.”

“It seems like we need all the pieces around him to continue to get better to help him get over that hump,” Dawkins added. “Because if Josh is No. 1, he’s at his best, right? If I’m not top 10 or I’m not No. 1, that means that I’m not at my best, which means I have to do better. Dawson [Knox], Dalton [Kincaid], Joe Brady, [James] Cook, everybody — everybody has to do better. So we’re all going to be that and do that so we can get over that hump, and we can be exactly what we want to be and stop talking about it, right? I’m ready for it. It’s time.”

Jets

Jets QB coach Bill Musgrave has been working closely with fourth-round QB Cade Klubnik and gave his opinion on where he is ahead of the preseason, noting he only needs experience and his mechanics are already solid.

“He’s very eager to get this thing and figure it out,” Musgrave said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “He’s ready to rock and roll. [He asks] a lot of good questions. He’s a good athlete. At his pro day, he might have run 4.57 [second 40-yard dash time], so he can move. It’ll be fun to see him versus live bullets in these preseason games and watch him develop because he’s got a lot of athletic skills. We’ll try to harness them and have him get good at this football thing at the pro level.”

“The young guys aren’t as entrenched mechanically, but he’s pretty sound,” Musgrave added. “He’s got a good base, a good rhythm. … He’s got plenty good grip [on the ball], so there’s not a lot of slipping in mid-motion. Those balls aren’t coming unraveled when he throws it. He throws a nice, tight spiral. He really has a great skill set. I don’t think we could be any more excited to work with a young guy than we are with Cade.”

Jets

Jets FB Andrew Beck embraces his role as a special teams ace and said that he’s happy if it helps him stay on the field.

“As an offensive guy, there’s seldom, hopefully never times that I’m gonna be tackling, you know, if it is, something bad happened on the offensive side of the ball,” Beck said, via the team’s website. “But when we get on special teams, it’s awesome because you get to go be a tackler sometimes and next time you’re blocking. It truly lets you experience the entire skill set needed for football and I think that’s an exciting part.”

Beck said that he’s placed an emphasis on improving his tackling this offseason.

“Obviously being an offensive guy, we don’t get a ton of tackling work and on special teams, I mean, half the time you’re out there that’s the battle right?” Beck said. “Like when we’re covering punts and kickoffs, obviously it’s more of a defensive mindset, so it’s something I’m familiar with just playing ball growing up but it’s definitely a thing I looked to work on more specifically this offseason and I think I’ve been able to.”

Beck added that the offense is excited about OC Frank Reich and said that he’s putting his personnel in positions to succeed.

“He does such a good job of not necessarily a giant diverse playbook of a million things that we have to master, but putting guys in different spots and letting them do what they do best,” Beck said. “So he’s not going ask me to run 80 yards downfield and he’s not going to ask Garrett Wilson to run ISO [isolate] on the linebacker.“
