AFC Notes: Trent Brown, Raheem Mostert, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots

Dolphins

Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert put his name in the NFL record books with a four-touchdown day against the Broncos in Week 3, part of Miamiโ€™s 70-point outburst. The veteran has come a long way from when Mostert was bouncing around the fringe of the NFL just hoping to hang on to a practice squad spot. Mostert was cut seven times by six teams, including the Dolphins ironically.

โ€œThat still fuels me to this day,โ€ he said via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. โ€œI still have that list of the teams that cut me, that didnโ€™t give me an opportunity, including the Dolphins at the time. But all is forgiven. But you just have to look at it as a positive. I did get my opportunity when I was with the Niners and I canโ€™t look back.โ€

Mostert has continued to be doubted because there arenโ€™t a lot of successful running backs at his age. But the 31-year-old is happy to still have a chip on his shoulder, and turn his lack of opportunities earlier in his career into a blessing.

โ€œIโ€™m truly blessed just because I didnโ€™t get that tread on me early on,โ€ Mostert said. โ€œSo it actually saved me and I feel like it just helped prolong my career. Iโ€™m truly happy about that.โ€

Jets

Jets QB Zach Wilson admitted that thereโ€™s a lot of frustration with the teamโ€™s inability to move the ball offensively.

โ€œYeah, just frustrating โ€” frustration that weโ€™re not moving the ball,โ€ Wilson said, via ESPN. โ€œThatโ€™s what it was. Our defense was stringing together some stops and I felt like it was time to go, time to go, time to put some points on the board. So yeah, just trying to figure out how we can attack.โ€

Jets WR Garrett Wilson left the impression that heโ€™s upset with how heโ€™s been used and his lack of involvement.

โ€œI feel like Iโ€™m in a really good spot as far as my ability and I donโ€™t feel like Iโ€™ve been able to put that on display,โ€ he said. โ€œAnd thatโ€™s for multiple reasons. I donโ€™t know what it may be, but I just know Iโ€™m ready. Iโ€™m going to make sure I continue to be ready. Iโ€™m going to make sure that every time I take that field that Iโ€™m confident in my ability no matter whatโ€™s going on.โ€

Jets HC Robert Saleh said thereโ€™s still plenty of time to turn the season around and theyโ€™re not hitting the panic button yet.

โ€œWeโ€™re still early in the season,โ€ Saleh said. โ€œWe knew, even with Aaron at quarterback, there was going to be some hiccups along the way because of a new offense, a new playcaller, new O-line, just new players. Not youโ€™ve got this curveball sent to us and theyโ€™re acclimating and theyโ€™re going to get better.โ€

Patriots

Patriots OT Trent Brown spoke about receiving an additional $2 million in incentives from the team, bringing the maximum value of his contract to $13 million. Brown is still set to become a free agent when the season ends.

โ€œIt was a nice raise, a nice gesture,โ€ Brown said, via Zack Cox of NESN. โ€œAnd it still allowed me to be a free agent at the end of the year, so Iโ€™m appreciative of that. Now, itโ€™s time to play ball. Iโ€™m just trying to play football, really. Iโ€™m controlling what I can control in the meantime, and if God sees fit for me to be elsewhere, thatโ€™s just what it is.โ€
