Dolphins
Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert put his name in the NFL record books with a four-touchdown day against the Broncos in Week 3, part of Miami’s 70-point outburst. The veteran has come a long way from when Mostert was bouncing around the fringe of the NFL just hoping to hang on to a practice squad spot. Mostert was cut seven times by six teams, including the Dolphins ironically.
โThat still fuels me to this day,โ he said via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. โI still have that list of the teams that cut me, that didnโt give me an opportunity, including the Dolphins at the time. But all is forgiven. But you just have to look at it as a positive. I did get my opportunity when I was with the Niners and I canโt look back.โ
Mostert has continued to be doubted because there aren’t a lot of successful running backs at his age. But the 31-year-old is happy to still have a chip on his shoulder, and turn his lack of opportunities earlier in his career into a blessing.
โIโm truly blessed just because I didnโt get that tread on me early on,โ Mostert said. โSo it actually saved me and I feel like it just helped prolong my career. Iโm truly happy about that.โ
Jets
Jets QB Zach Wilson admitted that there’s a lot of frustration with the team’s inability to move the ball offensively.
“Yeah, just frustrating — frustration that we’re not moving the ball,” Wilson said, via ESPN. “That’s what it was. Our defense was stringing together some stops and I felt like it was time to go, time to go, time to put some points on the board. So yeah, just trying to figure out how we can attack.”
Jets WR Garrett Wilson left the impression that he’s upset with how he’s been used and his lack of involvement.
“I feel like I’m in a really good spot as far as my ability and I don’t feel like I’ve been able to put that on display,” he said. “And that’s for multiple reasons. I don’t know what it may be, but I just know I’m ready. I’m going to make sure I continue to be ready. I’m going to make sure that every time I take that field that I’m confident in my ability no matter what’s going on.”
Jets HC Robert Saleh said there’s still plenty of time to turn the season around and they’re not hitting the panic button yet.
“We’re still early in the season,” Saleh said. “We knew, even with Aaron at quarterback, there was going to be some hiccups along the way because of a new offense, a new playcaller, new O-line, just new players. Not you’ve got this curveball sent to us and they’re acclimating and they’re going to get better.”
Patriots
Patriots OT Trent Brown spoke about receiving an additional $2 million in incentives from the team, bringing the maximum value of his contract to $13 million. Brown is still set to become a free agent when the season ends.
โIt was a nice raise, a nice gesture,โ Brown said, via Zack Cox of NESN. โAnd it still allowed me to be a free agent at the end of the year, so Iโm appreciative of that. Now, itโs time to play ball. Iโm just trying to play football, really. Iโm controlling what I can control in the meantime, and if God sees fit for me to be elsewhere, thatโs just what it is.โ
