AFC Rumors: Browns, Dolphins, Jets

Browns

  • Tony Pauline reports that Scot McCloughan and Elliott Wolf were pushing hard for Baker Mayfield in the Browns war room and it appears as though they’ve convinced GM John Dorsey that he should be the No. 1 pick.
  • A source tells Pauline that โ€œMcCloughan got John Dorsey to believe Mayfield will be the next Brett Farve.โ€
  • According to Adam Schefter, the Browns have shopped around the No. 4 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
  • Wehn asked whether the Browns would stay put at No. 4 or trade the pick, HC Hue Jackson said there are “a lot of different scenarios” to what could happen:ย “One thing I know is that we’ll do what we think is best for the organization. There are a lot of different scenarios that can happen.” (Josina Anderson)

Dolphins

  • Tom Pelissero reports that the Dolphins are still open to a lot of possibilities at No. 11 overall because they still have no idea how the first 10 picks will play out.
  • According to Pelissero, the smart money is on Miami staying at No. 11 and taking the best available defensive player.
  • However, teams have reportedly contacted the Dolphins about moving down and there’s still a chance that they could go the other way and move up if a quarterback starts to fall.
  • Pelissero adds that the Dolphins have made it clear that Ryan Tannehill will still be their starting quarterback in 2018, even if they come away from the draft with a top quarterback prospect.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini mentions that if the Browns do, in fact, take Baker Mayfield at No. 1 overall, Sam Darnold could go at No. 2 to a team trading up with the Giants.
  • Cimini wouldn’t be shocked if the Jets explore theย possibility of moving up. Otherwise, he’s pretty sure they would take Josh Rosen at No. 3 in this scenario.
  • If both Darnold and Rosen are on the board for the Jets, Cimini’s sense is that Darnold would be their guy.
