AFC South Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Texans, Titans

Colts

  • Football Outsiders via ESPN lists right guard as the biggest hole left on the Colts’ roster. While Indianapolis doesn’t have many apparent weaknesses, starting RG Mark Glowinski could be the weak link on their line.
  • Per Joel Erickson of the Indianapolis Star, Colts LB Darius Leonard is thrilled about the addition of DL DeForest Buckner, as it should take some of the attention off of him: “Exciting to add another monster to the defense. If we’ve got all those dogs up front, there’s no way the offensive line can climb up as quick. . . . That’s going to allow the linebackers to hopefully run free and make more plays.”

Jaguars

New Jaguars LB Joe Schobert feels he has a “pretty good understanding” of Jacksonville’s defensive installments.

We’re going through our first install today,” Schobert said, via John Oehser of the team’s official site. “I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of what we tried to install today. But then usually you go on the field and you get to walk through it and you get to practice it.”

Schobert went on to say that he is focused on learning the Jaguars’ defensive terms and feels his transition will be easier when that is locked down.

“It’s just about learning where you’re going to line up and the techniques – and the communication that will go on, Once you get that stuff down, it’s really not that hard. Right now, I’m learning the verbiage and all the communication for the Jaguars’ system. Once you get that stuff down, it’s kind of just plug and play,” said Schobert.

As for his mission with the Jaguars, Schobert said he wants to prove he can be a part of a “winning franchise.”

“I want to prove I can be part of winning franchise,” Schobert said. “I want to be able to change the culture into a traditional winning culture, to be able to be a team that can go to the playoffs year after year and be one of the more successful teams in the AFC and competing for titles every year.”

Texans

  • Football Outsiders via ESPN lists pass rush as the biggest hole left on the Texans’ roster, as their pass rush suffers when DE J.J. Watt is out, which has been all-too-common due to injury the past few seasons.

Titans

  • Football Outsiders via ESPN lists pass rush as the biggest hole left on the Titans’ roster, as they don’t really have a proven guy who can get to the quarterback outside of DE Harold Landry.
  • New Titans CB Johnathan Joseph is good friends with free-agent DE Jadeveon Clowney, as both played together with the Texans and went to South Carolina, albeit a few years apart. However, he says he’s not recruiting Clowney to come to Tennessee: “I just kind of stand back, and if advice is asked of me, I’ll give it. But it’s a decision he has to make.” (Erik Bacharach)
