New Broncos CB A.J. Bouye said there are still a “few things” he must address with his new team but confirmed he’s the trade is likely to be completed.
โThereโs still a few things we have to go through yet but from what I understand Iโm a Bronco. I’m excited,” said Bouye, via Mike Klis of 9News.
Bouye said he received a call from Jaguars GM David Caldwell on Tuesday explaining they’ve traded him and then spoke to Broncos GM John Elway soon after.
โToday I was chillinโ with the family and I get a call from Caldwell and he was saying he wished things would have worked out better and how much he appreciates everything I did. And then the next thing you know I get a call from Elway,” said Bouye, via Klis.
Bouye mentioned that he also spoke with Broncos HC Vic Fangio and began studying their system.
โAfter everything becomes official he said heโs excited for me to come. And I talked to Vic. Fred gave me some possibilities about certain teams and I started watching film of Denverโs scheme. I watched Vic when he was DC with the Bears. So Iโm excited.โ Klis
- Troy Renck points out that the Broncos acquiring Bouye likely means the end of veteran CB Chris Harris‘s career in Denver.
- Although Klis confirms that Bouye’s acquisition makes Harris’ return “less likely,” his sources have said it does not completely “shut the door” given Denver still needs another proven cornerback.
- Klis also reports that other NFL teams showed interest in Bouye prior to being traded to the Broncos, but he “expressed a preference” for Denver.
- According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the Broncos, Giants, Raiders and Saints are expected to be in linebacker market this offseason.
