AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders

Broncos

  • Mike Klis of 9News reports that the Broncos had discussions with free agent LB Paul Worrilowโ€˜s representatives before he agreed to a deal with the Ravens on Friday.
  • Klis notes that the Broncosโ€™ interest was related to the injury LB Todd Davis is currently dealing with.

Chiefs

Chiefs new DC Steve Spagnuolo says that installing his defensive system has gone โ€œreally goodโ€ so far.

โ€œIโ€™ve been through this first-year thing a number of times,โ€ Spagnuolo said, via ESPN.com. โ€œSometimes itโ€™s gone really good, and sometimes it hasnโ€™t gone so good.โ€

Chiefs GM Brett Veach explained that they were aggressive making additions to the defense this offseason to try to compliment on their highly productive offense.

โ€œIt was a little ambitious and aggressive, but thatโ€™s the mode we operate in,โ€ Veach said. โ€œWe have a great offense, and we want to take advantage of that every year and while theyโ€™re all young and healthy and playing at a high level.

โ€œOffense, especially with coach [Andy] Reid, is an execution deal, and itโ€™s timing and precision. Itโ€™s reps upon reps upon reps. Not to say that defense isnโ€™t, but defense is more of a mindset and a temperament. So you want to bring in guys that are going to come in and get other players to respond to them.โ€

  • Adam Caplan reports that the Chiefs signed veteran OL Jeff Allen to a one-year, $1.13 million that includes $930,000 fully guaranteed.

Raiders

Following Thursdayโ€™s preseason game, Raiders HC Jon Gruden said they could end up keeping as many as five undrafted free agents on their roster this year.

โ€œWe might have five undrafted players make the team,โ€ Gruden said. โ€œThatโ€™s the story most people are missing. Iโ€™m going to talk about that, and not about any more distractions.โ€
