Alex Okafor Leaves Visit With Buccaneers With Deal

Greg Auman reports that Saints free agent DE Alex Okafor left his visit with the Buccaneers without an agreement in place. Auman says there’s still mutual interest between the Bucs and Okafor but there’s also no immediate signing expected at this time.

  • Herbie Teope reported earlier in the day that the Saints are interested in re-signing Okafor, but he is drawing interest from other teams.

Okafor, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.634 million rookie contract that included a base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season when he signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Saints during last year.

Okafor suffered a season-ending Achilles tear last year.

In 2017, Okafor appeared in 10 games and recorded 43 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and four pass defenses for the Saints. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 edge rusher out of 106 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
