Matt Maiocco ofย CSN Bay Areaย makes the case for Alex Smith returning to the 49ers following the 2011 but adds that there’s no reason to create such a distraction at this point in the season.
49ers fans have been down on Smith for the majority of his career in San Francisco and rightfully so. Jim Harbaugh has done by far the best job of creating a system that plays to Smith’s strengths and has show a lot of confidence in a player that many felt was unfit to be an NFL quarterback.
Smith currently has only 3 interceptions which happens to be as many as MVP favorite Aaron Rodgers. While Smith doesn’t have anywhere close to numbers that Rodgers does, he’s been able to lead the team to wins in eight of nine games and could have the division locked up by Week 13.
You can expect to hear more about Smith’s future with the 49ers as the second-half of the season plays out but Maiocco makes a good point in that there’s reason to disrupt the teams current momentum.
