Bears Expected To Release WR Markus Wheaton

Brad Biggs reports that Bears veteranย WR Markus Wheaton isย expecting to be released by the team at some point in the near future.

This shouldn’t come as a big surprise, given that he hasn’t lived up to his contract and the Bears spent big money at receiver when they signed Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel in recent days.

Wheaton, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers back in 2013. He played out the final year of his rookie contract with the Steelers when he signed a two-year, $11 million deal that included $6 million guaranteed with the Bears last offseason.

Wheaton is set to earn $5 million in the final year of his agreement for 2018.

In 2017, Wheaton appeared in 11 games for the Bears and caught three passes for 51 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
