Bears HC Marc Trestman Rules Jay Cutler Out For Week 12

Bears HC Marc Trestman told reporters on Monday that QB Jay Cutler is “week-to-week” and is out for Week 12’s game against the Rams, per Tom Pelissero.

Cutler continues to work his way back from a high-ankle sprain that he suffered just a few weeks after he sustained groin injury.

Josh McCown has done an incredible job in relief of Cutler and is clearly one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league right now. Some have wondered whether the Bears would be willing to go back to Cutler once he’s healthy if they continue to win with McCown, but the team has shot down that idea.

“Jay is the QB of our football team and Josh is our backup quarterback,” Trestman said on Monday. “The three of us all know that. That hasn’t changed.”

McCown himself told reports on Monday that there is “no doubt” Cutler remains the team’s starter when healthy.

Cutler, 30, is in the final year of contract and figures to be the best available quarterback on the open market, unless of course Chicago locks him up before the free agency period is underway. We have Cutler listed as the No. 11 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.
