Bears Hiring John DeFilippo As QBs Coach

Adam Schefter reports that the Bears are hiring former Jaguars OC John DeFilippo as their next quarterbacks’ coach.

DeFilippo, 41, began his NFL coaching career with the Giants back in 2005. He spent two years with the Giants before the Raiders hired him as their quarterbacks coach in 2007.

After a brief stint with the Jets, DeFilippo returned to the Raiders and was later hired by the Browns as their offensive coordinator in 2015. Unfortunately, the Browns fired their coaching staff after one season and he later agreed to coach the Eagles quarterbacks in 2016.

The Vikings hired DeFilippo as their offensive coordinator back in 2018, replacing Pat Shurmur. However, he was fired midseason.

Jacksonville signed him at the start of 2019 but elected to part ways with him just two days ago in what was considered a mutual decision. It was somewhat of a surprising move given DeFilippo had done strong work with rookie QB Gardner Minshew this year.

In 2019, the Jaguars offense ranked No. 20 in total yards, No. 26 in points scored, No. 17 in rushing yards per game and No. 16 in passing yards per game.
