Bears Place OLB Sam Acho On IR, Sign OL Bryan Witzmann

The Chicago Bears announced Monday that they’ve placed OLBย Sam Acho on injured reserve andย signed OL Bryan Witzmann.

Acho suffered a season-ending torn pec last week, so this move was expected.

Acho, 30, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2011. He spent four years in Arizona before he signed on with the Bears as an unrestricted free agent back April of 2015.

Acho played the past two seasons on one-year contracts with the Bears before agreeing to aย to a two-year contract this offseason.

In 2018, Acho appeared in four games for the Bears and recorded one tackle and no sacks.

Witzmann, 28, originally signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota State back in 2014. He lasted just over a year in Houston before signing on to the Saints’ practice squad a few weeks into the 2015 season.

New Orleans elected to bring him back on a future/reserve contract, but he was unfortunately waived a few weeks after the 2016 draft.ย Witzmann had a brief stint with the Cowboys before the Chiefs claimed off waivers.

The Chiefs signedย Witzmannย two-year, $990,000 contract last year only to cut loose coming out of the preseason. The Vikings signed him to a contract a few weeks later before releasing him last week.

In 2017, Witzmann appeared in all 16 games for the Chiefs.
