Bears Promote WR Tanner Gentry To Active Roster, Waive WR Deonte Thompson

The Chicago Bears announced Wednesday that they’ve promoted WR Tanner Gentry to the active roster and waived WR Deonte Thompson.

  • The Bears also signed LB Carl Bradford and WR Darreus Rogers to their practice squad.

The Bears’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. OL Brandon Greene
  2. DL Rashaad Coward
  3. OL Cameron Lee
  4. TE Ben Brauneckerย (Exception)
  5. WR Mario Alford
  6. NT Mike Purcell
  7. DB Doran Grant
  8. LB Jason Thompson
  9. LB Carl Bradford
  10. WR Darreus Rogers

Adam Jahnsย mentions that Gentry has a “strong rapport” with rookie QB Mitch Trubisky, and it’s clear that Chicago needs more help from their receivers.

Gentry, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming back in May. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Bears cut him loose coming out of the preseason and later signed him to their practice squad.

Chicago promoted Gentry to their active roster earlierย in the year after they lost Kevin White for the season only to cut him loose a few days later.

In 2017, Gentry has appeared in one game and caught two passes for 27 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

During his college career, Gentry caught 180 passes for 2,815 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns over the course of 42 games.
