Bears Worked Out Three Safeties Including Mike Mitchell

Ian Rapoport reports that the Bears brought in free agent S Mike Mitchell for a visit on Monday. According to Rapoport, it sounds like the meeting “went pretty well.”

  • According to Howard Balzer, the Bears also worked out L.J. McCray and Kai Nacua.

Mitchell previously worked out for the Titans and Cardinals.

Mitchell, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Raiders back in 2009. After four years in Oakland and a brief stint with the Panthers, Mitchell signed a five-year, $25 million contract with $5.75 million guaranteed with the Steelers back in 2014.

Unfortunately, the Steelers released him back in March.

In 2017, Mitchell appeared in 13 games for the Steelers and recorded 53 tackles, no interceptions, a fumble recovery and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 62 safety out of 87 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
