According to the Buffalo Bills team website, the franchise has released longtime kicker Ryan Lindell Monday morning.
Lindell, who a year and a half ago signed a four year, $11 million extension, was given his walking papers not to much surprise. Buffalo chose kicker Dustin Hopkins in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, putting the writing on the wall for Lindell’s termination.
Among the criticism of Lindell is his leg strength in distance kicking. Over the last five years, he has only made five field goals of 50+ yards.
Lindell successfully kicked 21 of 24 field goal tries during the 2012 season. With his career 81.3 percent field goal rate, he’s likely to catch on somewhere else in the league.
