Bills Waive P Colton Schmidt, Sign P Matt Darr

The Buffalo Bills announced Tuesday that they’ve waived P Colton Schmidt and signed P Matt Darr to a one-year deal.

Schmidt, 28, originally signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Davis back in 2013. He lasted a little over a month with the team before he was placed on waivers. The Browns claimed him shortly after, but was cut loose after just a few days.

Schmidt later had a brief stint with the 49ers before the Bills signed him to a contract in 2014. Buffalo released him coming out of the preseason only to re-sign him in October.

In 2018, Schmidt has appeared in three games for the Bills and totaled 580 punt yards on 16 attempts (36.35 YPA).

Darr, 25, wound up signing on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee back in 2015. He was in the final year of his three-year, $1.576 million contract and set to make a base salary of $615,000 for the 2017 season when the Dolphins elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

In 2016, Darr appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and totaled 3,691 yards on 90 attempts (41.01 YPA) to go along with five touchbacks.
