Update:
Here’s the official release from the NFL regarding Jameis Winston’s three-game suspension:
“Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was notified today by NFL Special Counsel forย Conduct Todd Jones that he has been suspended without pay for the Buccaneersโ first threeย regular-season games for a violation of the NFLโs Personal Conduct Policy.ย
“In November 2017, the NFL learned of an incident involving Winston and a shared-ride service driverย that had taken place in March 2016 in Scottsdale, AZ. The incident, which had been immediatelyย reported by the driver to her employer and which resulted in Winstonโs removal from the ride-sharingย platform, was also publicly reported last November.
“The league promptly initiated a comprehensive investigation that included interviews with severalย persons, including the driver, Winston and others with relevant information. The league alsoย examined an extensive amount of other evidence, including telephone records, business records,ย data from electronic devices and other communications. Based on the investigation, the NFL foundย that Winston had violated the NFL Personal Conduct Policy, which allows for discipline to be imposedย even when criminal charges are not presented.
“In his letter advising Winston of the suspension, Jones stated after full consideration of the record,ย including a meeting with Winston and his representatives, and a written submission by his attorneys,ย that the driverโs account of the incident was consistent and credible. As a result, the investigation hadย concluded that Winston violated the Personal Conduct Policy by touching the driver in anย inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent and that disciplinary action was necessary andย appropriate.
“As part of the discipline, Winston is also required to obtain a clinical evaluation and fully cooperate inย any recommended program of therapeutic intervention. A failure either to obtain the evaluation or to cooperate with treatment will result in further discipline. In addition, a future violation of the Personalย Conduct Policy will result in more substantial discipline, including a potential ban from the NFL.ย Winston has advised the league office that he accepts this discipline. His suspension therefore willย take effect as of the final roster reduction on September 1 and he will be eligible to return onย September 25 following the Buccaneersโ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Winston mayย participate in all of his clubโs preseason activities, including games.”
The Buccaneers also released a statement regarding the news:
“All members of our organization are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the Personal Conduct Policy of the NFL.ย We are disappointed that Jameis put himself in a position that has been found to violate the policy and accept todayโs decision by the Commissioner.”

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Buccaneers QBย Jameis Winston has officially been suspended three gamesย for violating the personal conduct policy.
Here’s a statement from Winston regarding the news:
โThe NFL informed me today that I will be suspended for the first three games of the season.
โFirst and foremost, I would like to say Iโm sorry to the Uber driver for the position I put you in. It is uncharacteristic of me and I genuinely apologize. In the past 2 1/2 years my life has been filled with experiences, opportunities and events that have helped me grow, mature and learn, including the fact that I have eliminated alcohol from my life.
โI know I have to hold myself to a higher standard on and off the field and that I have a responsibility to my family, community, and teammates to live above the platform with which God has blessed me. I apologize to my teammates, the Buccaneers organization and fans for letting them down and for not being able to be out there for the first three games of the season. Although I am disappointed in the NFLโs decision, I understand the NFLโs process, and I embrace this as an opportunity to take advantage of the resources available to help me achieve the goals that I have for myself.
โI now look forward to putting this behind me and I will continue to work hard every day to be a positive influence in my community and be the best person, teammate and leader I can be.โ
Tom Pelissero confirms that this was a negotiated settlement with the NFL.
Reports from last week mentioned that Winston was likely to receive a three-game suspension and official word could come this week, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.
In total,ย Winston will lose $124,000 in base salary for a three-game suspension.
Talal Ansari of BuzzFeed reported last year the NFL has officially opened an investigation after an allegation surfaced thatย Winston grabbed a female Uber driverโs crotch back in 2016.
According to Ansari, the female Uber driver, stopped outside of a party in downtown Scottsdale, Arizona to pick up a passenger around 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016.
The woman said that Winston “behaved poorlyโ by shouting homophobic slurs at pedestrians and later “reached over and he just grabbed my crotchโ while they were waiting in line at a drive-thru.
โI wasn’t just creeped out,โ said the woman. โI was frozen.โ
โI mean he’s an NFL quarterback and Iโm 5 ft 6. Iโm not prepared for that. So I completely froze,โ she said.
โI have been empowered by my sisters who have forged this path by speaking up, and I must do my part to make it a little more well traveled,โ she said. โIf Iโm silent, I fear that further harm will come to other women, if it hasnโt already.โ
She added, โHe sexually assaulted me, and I have every right to tell the damn truth about it.โ
The woman later filed an incident report with Uber describing in detail what had occurred.
Winston, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2015. He’s set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2018 season, but the Bucs picked up his fifth-year option a few months ago, which will pay himย $20.922 million for the 2019 season.
In 2017, Winston appeared in 13 games for the Buccaneers and threw for 3,504 yards while completing 63.8 percent of his passes to go along with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 16 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.
We’ll have more regarding Winston as the news is available.

Hold yourself to a higher standard? Like sexually assaulting an Uber driver isn’t as big of a deal if you’re not a coddled athlete that lives in a wealth bubble?
You’re a pos. Always were, always will be.
Totally agreeโheโs an entitled bottom-feeder whoโs pride canโt stop him from sabatoging himself.
