Adam Schefter reports that the Colts have reached an agreement with former Chiefs OLB Justin Houston on Thursday.
- Schefter adds that Houston receives a two-year, $24 million contract from the Colts.
The Colts had come up as a team that would make sense for Houston, seeing as GM Chris Ballard worked with him in Kansas City and they could use an impact pass rusher.
Overall, there was very little buzz about Houston since the Chiefs made the decision to release him last week. However, getting $12 million a year from a playoff team at this point in free agency is actually pretty good, so I’m sure he’s fine with how things played out.
It’s worth mentioning that signing Houston to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.
Houston, 30, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2011. He was entering the fifth year of his six-year, $101 million contract that included $52.5 million guaranteed and set to make base salaries of $15.25 million and $17 million over the next two years when the Chiefs released him.
In 2018, Houston appeared in 12 games for the Chiefs and recorded 37 tackles, nine sacks, an interception, five forced fumbles and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 14 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.
