Armando Salguero is reporting that the Dolphins areย trading Jay Ajayi to the Eagles for a fourth-round draft pick.
All morning NFL reporters were offering hints that a trade could be coming from the Dolphins.
- Jason La Canfora wondered if the Dolphins may attempt to do something bold to try to shake up their dormant offense.
- Chris Mortensen cryptically mentioned that Dolphins HC Adam Gase’s recent decision to rip his team is usually followed by a message to prove he meant it, implying a trade could be coming today.]
Sure enough, Miami sends their starting running back to the Eagles for a future draft pick.
Miami’s backfield now consists of Damien Williams, Kenyan Drake and Senorise Perry, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them take a look at some of the available options.
The Eagles add some real depth to their backfield with this deal, which should help them as they draw closer to the playoffs. Ajayi should also be an upgrade in pass protection for them, which has been a bit of an issue this season.
Ajayi, 24, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.5 million contract and set to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2017, Ajayi has appeared in seven games and rushed for 465 yards on 138 carries (3.4 YPC) to go along with 14 receptions for 67 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
