According to Ian Rapoport, the Eagles are trading for Titans S Kevin Byard.
Dianna Russini reports the Eagles will trade 2024 fifth and sixth-round picks along with veteran S Terrell Edmunds to the Titans in exchange for Byard.
This is a big move by the Eagles to shore up the biggest weakness on a Super Bowl-contending roster.
Byard has multiple All-Pro selections under his belt and the Titans clearly felt it was in their best interests to go ahead and move the veteran now in a year where they’re not necessarily expected to do well at 2-4.
Byard, 29, is a former third-round pick by the Titans in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $3,237,060 rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $2.025 million in 2019 when he signed a five-year, $70.5 million extension in 2019.
The Titans reworked Byard’s salary this summer to pay him a base salary of $4 million in 2023. He’s due a base salary of $9.6 million in 2024, the final year of his contract.
In 2023, Byard has appeared in six games for the Titans and recorded 47 total tackles along with one fumble recovery.
Edmunds, 26, was taken with the No. 28 overall pick out of Virginia Tech in 2018 by the Steelers. He finished his four-year, $10,697,790 rookie contract that included a $5,860,212 signing bonus.
Pittsburgh declined his fifth-year option before re-signing him to a one-year, $2.5 million deal. He played out that deal and signed a one-year contract with the Eagles for the 2023 season.
In 2023, Edmunds has appeared in seven games for the Eagles and recorded 28 total tackles, one forced fumble and no pass deflections.
