Giants Releasing WR Brandon Marshall

Kimberly A. Martin is reporting that the Giants have informed WR Brandon Marshall that he’s being released on Thursday.

Giants GM Dave Gettleman has already confirmed the news of Marshall’s release.

It’s interesting that the Giants would make this move now, considering how close we are to the draft.

Marshall’s release will likely to lead to increased speculation about the possibility of signing WR Dez Bryant, who has made it clear that he would like to play for the Giants.

Marshall, 34, is a former fourth-round pick by the Broncos in the 2009 NFL Draft. After four years in Denver, he was traded to the Dolphins in 2010. Marshall’s time in Miami was limited to just two season before he was once again traded, this time to the Bears in return for two third-round picks.

In total, Marshall spent three seasons with the Bears, but was traded for a third time to the Jets in March of 2015. Marshall was in the final year of his contract when the Jets released him last offseason and he later signed a two-year, $12 million with the Giants.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $5,156,250 of available cap space while creating $1 million in dead money.

In 2017, Marshall appeared in five games and caught 18 passes for 154 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the Giants before he was placed on injured reserve.
