Mike Klis reports that the Broncos are signing CB Chris Harris Jr. to a one-year contract worth $12.05 million for the 2019 season.
This increases Harris’ previous salary of $8.9 million for this season.
โWe have a lot of respect for Chris as a player and for everything heโs meant to our organization. This contract adjustment recognizes his value to our team and the high expectations we have for Chris as a Bronco this season and hopefully for years to come,โ said Broncos GM John Elway, via James Palmer.
According to Klis, what “helped” finalize Harris’ deal is receiving $650,000 by reporting to camp on Wednesday and another $600,000 bonus for showing up to training camp in July.
While Harris previously requested a trade, the Broncos maintained that they had no plans to do so.
Harris, 29, wound up signing on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas back in 2011. He has played all seven years of his NFL career in Denver.
Harris was entering the final year of his five-year, $42.5 million contract that included a $10 million signing bonus and was set to make a base salary of $7.8 million for the 2019 season.
In 2018, Harris appeared in 11 games for the Broncos and recorded 48 tackles, one sack, three interceptions returned for a touchdown and 10 pass defenses.
