Broncos Placing OT Elijah Wilkinson On IR

Per Mike Klis, Broncos HC Vic Fangio said in a radio interview the team plans to place OT Elijah Wilkinson on injured reserve with a leg injury.

It’s yet another injury blow for the Broncos, as Wilkinson was starting at right tackle after Denver already lost projected starter Ja’Wuan James after he opted out.

Klis notes Wilkinson has a fractured shinbone, adding Demar Dotson should be the next man up at tackle for the Broncos.

Wilkinson, 25, wound up going undrafted out of Massachusetts back in 2017. He later signed on with the Broncos, but was waived coming out of the preseason and later re-signed to their practice squad.

Wilkinson played under exclusive rights tenders each of the past two seasons before returning to the Broncos on a one-year, restricted tender worth $3.27 million for the 2020 season this pat April.

In 2020, Wilkinson has appeared in three games for the Broncos and started all three at right tackle. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 64 tackle out of 71 qualifying players.
