Broncos Waive QB Chad Kelly

Mike Klis reports that the Broncos are placing QB Chad Kelly on waivers Wednesday following his recent arrest.

The Broncos have already announced the move:

This was a decision that we made as an organization,” John Elway announced. “After reviewing all the information and in talking with Vance (Joseph) and Joe (Ellis), we agreed that releasing Chad was the right thing to do.”

This makes Kevin Hogan the Broncos’ backup quarterback to Case Keenum.

Kelly was arrested early Tuesday on a charge of first-degree criminal trespassing in Englewood, Colo.

The Broncos were clearly unhappy with the news and reporters mentioned yesterday that it was possible that John Elway would elect to move on from Kelly.

Kelly, 24, is a former seventh-round pick of the Broncos back in 2017. He signed a four-year, $2.464 million contract that included a $64,270 signing bonus and stands to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

During his college career, Kelly threw for 6,858 yards while completing 63.9 percent of his passes to go along with 50 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.
