Browns Will Not Be Signing S Earl Thomas

Update:

Mike Garafolo updates his prior report by saying that sources have told him that the Browns will not be signing S Earl Thomas.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Browns and free agent S Earl Thomas are not working toward a deal, as has been previously reported.

Garafolo adds that he isn’t saying a deal between the Browns and Thomas can’t happen at some point, but as of last night, it was not happening.

According to Chris Mortensen, the Browns are in the market for a strong safety to replace Jabrill Peppers, who was traded to the Giants in the Odell Beckham Jr deal. Thomas actually plays free safety and the Browns like Damarious Randall in that role.

Thomas, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2010. He played out the final year of his five-year, $44.725 million contract that includes $27.725 million guaranteed and made a base salary of $8.5 million for the 2018 season.

Thomas is testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2018, Thomas appeared in four games and recorded 22 tackles, three interceptions and five pass defense for the Seahawks.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
