Browns GM Andrew Berry said during an interview with 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore last week that view DE Myles Garrett as a long-term member of their franchise and want to open extensions talks with him.
โWe do see Myles as a long-term member and pillar in our organization,โโ Berry said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. โGreat player, great person. Obviously, he did make a mistake last year that heโs learned from. But our confidence in and faith in Myles has not wavered and weโre looking to seeing what he does this year and certainly for years to come.โโ
Garrett has established himself as one of the best young pass rushers in the league despite his suspension late last season.
The Browns officially picked up Garrett’s fifth-year option a few weeks ago, which will cost them $15,184,000 for the 2021 season. This figure is guaranteed for injury and won’t prevent the two parties from negotiating a long-term extension over the next year or so.
Garrett, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2017. He just finished the third year of his four-year, $30.4 million fully guaranteed contract.
Garrett stands to make a base salary of $4.61 million for the 2020 season.
In 2019, Garrett appeared in 10 games and recorded 29 tackles, 10 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Weโll have more regarding Garrett and the Browns as the news is available.
