Browns Claim RB Brandon Wilds, Waive RB George Atkinson III

The Cleveland Browns announced Friday that they’ve claimed RB Brandon Wilds off of waivers from the Jetsct and placed RB George Atkinson III on waivers.

Wilds, 24, wound up signing on with the Falcons as undrafted free agent out of South Carolina back in May of last year. He was waived with an injury designation coming out of the preseason and the Falcons eventually cut him from injured reserve with a settlement.

The Jets later signed him to their practice squad and he finished out the year in New York. Unfortunately, the Jets waived Wilds on Thursday.

In 2016, Wilds appeared in four games and rushed for 27 yards on 10 carries to go along with two receptions for 20 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

During his college career at South Carolina, Wilds ran for 1,844 yards on 379 career carries (4.87 YPC) and 13 touchdowns to go along with 59 receptions.

Atkinson III, 24, originally signed on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in 2014. He was on and off of their practice squad for his first two years in Oakland before being claimed off of waivers by the Browns at the start of the 2016 season.

Cleveland elected to bring Atkinson III back on a one-year, exclusive rights deal.

In 2016, Atkinson III appeared in all 16 games for the Browns and rushed for 34 yards on seven carries (2.1 YPC) and scored one touchdown. He also contributed 137 kick return yards.
