Buccaneers GM Jason Licht was refreshingly candid about the team’s willingness to trade down from the No. 7 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
“That’s definitely something we’d look into,” Licht said during a pre-draft meeting Tuesday. ย “We’ve already reached out to teams. ย If our player isn’t there, we’d be open to conversations about moving back.”
Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com writes that he believes Licht was “making a point” to let it be known that Tampa was looking to trade down.
It’s difficult to determine if Licht was hinting at a potential move, or simply stating that the Bucs are exploring all options. ย He did note however, that the team has already reached out to teams, which at least shows that Tampa is being proactive.
At pick No. 7, many pundits have linked the Bucs to Texas A&M WR Mike Evans, or one of the top quarterback prospects. ย The team does have a fewย holes to address, and with only six picks in the draft, trading down to accumulate more picks could be an attractive option.
“Itโs the flavor that they want,โโ Licht said. โIf a team loves a player around where weโre at and they donโt want to miss out on him โฆthe bottom line is weโve got to find a trade partner.โโย
We have the Bucs selecting Mike Evans in our most recent 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
