Rick Stroud notes that with the release of DT Gerald McCoy on Monday, one possible option for the Buccaneers at defensive tackle worth watching is free agent Ndamukong Suh.
Greg Auman adds that Suh’s name has been circulating on Monday as a potential replacement for McCoy. Auman notes that Suh played in a 3-4 with Rams last year and while he’s older than McCoy by a year, he would be less expensive for their cap at around $10 million or so per year.
Suh’s market has been nonexistent up to this point. Although, it’s likely because he’s waiting for the right opportunity to surface for him on top of the fact that he’s expected to be seeking $10 million or more per year.
Suh, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Lions back in 2010. He spent five years in Detroit before signing a six-year, $114 million contract that included $60 million guaranteed with the Dolphins a few years ago.
The Dolphins designated Suh as a post-June 1 release last year and he would go on to sign a one-year, $14 million contract with the Rams. He’s once again testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.
In 2018, Suh appeared in all 16 games for the Rams and recorded 59 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 interior defender out of 112 qualifying players.
