The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced the release of veteran LT Donald Penn on Thursday.
- Jason La Canfora expects Penn to set up a visit with the Raiders.
- ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentions that the Redskins could have interest in Penn.
Penn, 31 in April, has two years remaining on his six-year, $41.7 million contract that included $18.8 million guaranteed. He will count $8.1 million against the Buccaneers’ 2014 salary cap, so it seems like a reasonable idea that they could approach him about reducing this figure.
Releasing him outright would free up $7,416,665 in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com. Pro Football Focus has Penn rated as the No. 30 offensive tackle in the league last season.
