The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are releasing veteran OL Evan Smith on Saturday, according to Greg Auman.
Smith is working his way back from surgery on both hips.
Auman notes that Smith’s release opens a spot for top backup at guard and center with Earl Watford and Josh LeRibeus both offering versatility to play both positions.
Smith, 33, originally signed on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent back in 2009. After four years in Green Bay, Smith signed a four-year, $14.25 million contract with the Buccaneers back in 2014.
Smith played out the final year of his contract before returning to Tampa Bay last year on a two-year, $6 million deal.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Smith will free up $2 million of available cap space while creating no dead money.
In 2018, Smith appeared in seven games for the Buccaneers, but did not make a start.
