Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports wroteย a few weeks ago that he expects the Billsย to field calls for one of their running backs as injuries start piling up around the NFL.
- La Canfora specifically mentioned that RBย C.J. Spillerย “could be the odd man out.”
- According to La Canfora, a “trade market for Spiller could well develop over the next month.”
Spiller confirmed that he’s heard the rumors, but is hoping to remain with the Bills for the 2014 season.
“I have friends and family members that inform me on some of the things that are being said with the trade rumors,” Spiller recently said, via The Buffalo News. “I’m not oblivious to that stuff. I’m not living on Mars or anything. I can’t control what happens. My response to them is ‘don’t worry about it.'”
“Once you start worrying about that type of stuff, you get off focus of what you’re trying to do. Until anything happens, I’m excited to be with the Bills and hopefully I’ll be around for this coming season.”
Spiller is currently without an agent, which could be the reason for the lack of contract talks between the two sides in recent months.
Spiller, 26, is set to makeย $1,748,750 for the 2014 season and should be a sought after player if he ends up reaching the open market next year.
Last year, Spiller ran forย 927 yards on 201 carries (4.6 YPC) and added two touchdowns.ย Pro Football Focusย rated Spiller as the No. 51 running back out of 55 qualifying players.
