Cardinals & DeAndre Hopkins To Open Extension Talks

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that the Cardinals and WR DeAndre Hopkins will be working on a contract that will replace the final three years of his current deal.

Hopkins is currently owed $12.5 million, $13.5 million, and $13.915 million over the next three years of the agreement, but none of these salaries are fully guaranteed.

Meanwhile, Falcons WR Julio Jones has set the top end of the receiver market at $22 million per year, which is nearly $6 million more per year than Hopkins got from the Texans in 2017.

Earlier in the day, the Texans agreed to trade Hopkins to the Cardinals for RB David Johnson and draft compensation.

Hopkins, 27, was taken with the No. 27 overall pick back in 2013. He’s currently in the third year of his five-year, $81 million extension that includes $49 million guaranteed.

Hopkins stands to make a base salary of $12.5 million for the 2020 season.

In 2019, Hopkins appeared in 15 games for the Texans and caught 104 passes for 1,165 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 18 yards.
