Cardinals To Interview Pat Shurmur, John DeFilippo, Jim Schwartz, Matt Patricia & Mike Munchak

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Cardinals have requested permission to interview Vikings OC Pat Shurmur for their head-coaching job.

  • Adam Schefter reports that the Cardinals have also submitted a request to interview Eagles’ QB coach John DeFilippo.
  • Ian Rapoport also reports that the Cardinals have put in requests to interview Eagles DC Jim Schwartz and Patriots DC Matt Patricia.
  • Schefter also reports that the Patriots have requested permission to interview Patriots LBs coach Brian Flores.
  • According to Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals have requested permission to interview Steelers OL coach Mike Munchak.

Bruce Arians has reportedly made the decision to retire from the NFL, which leaves them with a vacancy.

Shurmur, 52, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles in 1999 as their tight ends and offensive line coach. He was promoted to QBs coach before departing to become the offensive coordinator of the Rams in 2009.

Mike Holmgren hired Shurmur as the Browns head coach a few years later but he lasted just two seasons in Cleveland. After a few years with the Eagles, the Vikings hired him as their tight ends coach in 2016 and he worked his way up to offensive coordinator.

DeFilippo, 39, began his NFL coaching career with the Giants back in 2005 as an offensive quality control coordinator. He had brief stints with the Raiders and Jets before the Browns hired him as their offensive coordinator in 2015.

Unfortunately, DeFilippo lasted just one year in Cleveland before he was fired. The Eagles hired him as their QBs coach the following year.

We’ll have more regarding the Cardinals as the news is available.
