Cardinals Working Out RBs Jay Ajayi, Spencer Ware

According to Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals will work out free-agent RB Jay Ajayi on Tuesday.

Arizona will also work out RB Spencer Ware on Tuesday as it seeks to bolster its depth at the position, per Adam Schefter

Ajayi has spent this offseason recovering from a torn ACL that ended his 2018 season. However, he’s reportedly healthy and ready to find work.

Injuries have begun to mount at the running back position and with Ajayi being one of the best available options, it would not be surprising to see a market develop for him in the coming weeks if he’s healthy.

Ajayi, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2015. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.5 million contract and made a base salary of $1.9 million for the 2018 season.

The Eagles acquired Ajayi in a trade with the Dolphins that sent a 2018 fourth-round pick to Miami. He has been a free agent since March.

In 2018, Ajayi has appeared in four games for the Eagles and rushed for 184 yards on 45 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 20 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

Ware, 27, is a former sixth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2013. He spent over a year in Seattle before signing on with the Chiefs at the end of the 2014 season.

The Chiefs signed Ware to a three-year, $4.2 million contract that included $1.6 million guaranteed in 2016.  The team allowed Ware to hit free agency after his contract expired following this past season.

The Colts signed Ware to a one-year, $1.3 million deal for the 2019 season. Indianapolis released Ware from the PUP list last month.

In 2018, Ware appeared in 13 games for the Chiefs, rushing 51 times for 246 yards (4.8 YPC) and two touchdowns.  Ware also caught 20 passes for 224 yards receiving.
