Chargers Planning To Move Forward With Tyrod Taylor As Starting QB

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Chargers are not expected to sign a veteran quarterback after losing out on Tom Brady

Instead, Rapoport says the Chargers will move forward with Tyrod Taylor as their starting quarterback in 2020.

This leaves the door open to the Chargers possibly using their No. 6 overall pick on a quarterback prospect.

A recent report mentioned that the Chargers were at least considering the possibility of pursuing Panthers QB Cam Newton. However, it appears as though their focus remains on Taylor being their guy next season.

Last year, there was some buzz that Los Angeles wanted to bench Philip Rivers in favor of Taylor.

Taylor, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. After four years in Baltimore, Taylor signed on with the Bills for the 2015 season. Buffalo elected to trade Taylor to the Browns for a third-round pick last year.

Taylor played out the final year of a two-year, $30.5 million contract before agreeing to a two-year contract worth $11 million with the Chargers last year.

In 2019, Taylor appeared in eight games for the Chargers and completed 4 of 6 passes for 33 yards receiving and one touchdown. He also rushed for seven yards.
