Kansas City Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters on Tuesday thatย DT Dontari Poe suffered aย herniated disk in his back and has since undergoneย surgery, per Terez A. Paylor.
- Poe’s injury requiredย two epidurals and was sustained at his home.
- According toย Paylor, Poe will be replaced byย Jaye Howard while he’s out of the lineup.
- As of now, the expectation is that Poe will be back for early in the season.
Poe, 24, isย a former first-round pick of the Chiefs and is under team control for another two years. The Chiefs elected to pick upย fifth-year option back in April, which will pay hisย approximately $6.1 million for the 2016 season.
Last season, Poe appeared in all 16 games for the Chiefs, accumulating 46 total tackles, and a career high 6.0 sacks in the process. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 39 overall defensive tackle out of ย 81 qualifying players.
