Chiefs DT Dontari Poe Underwent Back Surgery For Herniated Disk

Kansas City Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters on Tuesday that DT Dontari Poe suffered a herniated disk in his back and has since undergone surgery, per Terez A. Paylor.

  • Poeโ€™s injury required two epidurals and was sustained at his home.
  • According to Paylor, Poe will be replaced by Jaye Howard while heโ€™s out of the lineup.
  • As of now, the expectation is that Poe will be back for early in the season.

Poe, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs and is under team control for another two years. The Chiefs elected to pick up fifth-year option back in April, which will pay his approximately $6.1 million for the 2016 season.

Last season, Poe appeared in all 16 games for the Chiefs, accumulating 46 total tackles, and a career high 6.0 sacks in the process. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 39 overall defensive tackle out of  81 qualifying players.

Weโ€™ll have more regarding Poeโ€™s injury as the news is available.
