Chiefs DT Dontari Poe Underwent Back Surgery For Herniated Disk

Kansas City Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters on Tuesday thatย DT Dontari Poe suffered aย herniated disk in his back and has since undergoneย surgery, per Terez A. Paylor.

  • Poe’s injury requiredย two epidurals and was sustained at his home.
  • According toย Paylor, Poe will be replaced byย Jaye Howard while he’s out of the lineup.
  • As of now, the expectation is that Poe will be back for early in the season.

Poe, 24, isย a former first-round pick of the Chiefs and is under team control for another two years. The Chiefs elected to pick upย fifth-year option back in April, which will pay hisย approximately $6.1 million for the 2016 season.

Last season, Poe appeared in all 16 games for the Chiefs, accumulating 46 total tackles, and a career high 6.0 sacks in the process. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 39 overall defensive tackle out of ย 81 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Poe’s injury as the news is available.
