According to Mike Garafolo, the Chiefs are expected to sign former Giants CB DeAndre Baker to their practice squad in the coming days.
The Chiefs will need to make a corresponding roster move, as they’re currently over the practice squad limit:
- CB DeAndre Baker
- DB Rodney Clemons
- LB Omari Cobb
- WR Gehrig Dieter
- WR Maurice Ffrench
- WR Joe Fortson
- DB Lavert Hill
- DB Chris Lammons
- QB Matt Moore
- C Darryl Williams
- G Danny Isidora
- WR Chad Williams
- WR Marcus Kemp
- LB Emmanuel Smith
- G Bryan Witzmann
- DE Demone Harris
- P Johnny Townsend
The Chiefs were reportedly scheduled to bring Baker in for a workout.
Earlier in the day, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reported that five teams so far are potentially in play to sign Baker including the 49ers, Bengals, Chiefs and Jaguars and possibly the Cowboys.
Prosecutors dropped all four charges of armed robbery that Baker was facing after the lawyer for three of the alleged victims was arrested on extortion charges.
Baker could still potentially face NFL discipline for the incident but it appears teams are willing to take a chance on the former first-round pick.
The Giants waived Baker earlier in the season after he was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list and no end to the case appeared to be in sight.
Baker, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Giants back in 2019. He was in the second year of his four-year, $10,525,716 contract that included a $5,675,064 signing bonus when the Giants waived him this summer.
In 2019, Baker appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and recorded 61 tackles, no interceptions and eight passes defended.
