Chiefs Interested In Trading Up For Alabama WR Henry Ruggs?

Peter King mentioned in his “Football Morning In America” column on Monday that the craziest rumor he’s heard of in the first round is the Chiefs wanting to trade up for Alabama WR Henry Ruggs should he drop into the twenties.

The Chiefs have a number fast receivers on their roster, but King says some theories for the Chiefs possibly having interest in Ruggs is that there are only two very good cover cornerbacks in this year’s and bother are unlikely to be available to them at No. 32 overall.

Beyond that, King says Sammy Watkins probably has just one more year in Kansas City and by adding another dynamic receiver, they would be able to maintain their depth should someone get hurt.

For what it’s worth, King gave the Chiefs TCU CB Jeff Gladney at No. 32 in his mock draft.

Ruggs, 21, is considered by draft experts to be one of the top receiver prospects in this year’s draft class. He possesses elite speed and posted a 4.27 40-yard-dash at the Combine.

Dane Brugler has Ruggs rated as his No. 12 overall player in this year’s class.

Lance Zierlein compares Ruggs to Ted Ginn Jr.

During his college career at Alabama, Ruggs, caught 98 passes for 1,716 yards receiving and 24 touchdowns to go along with 75 yards rushing and a touchdown over the course of three seasons and 40 games.
