Chiefs Signing DE Frank Clark To Five-Year, $105.5M Deal

Adam Schefter reports that the Chiefs and DE Frank Clark reached agreement on a five-year, $105.5 million contract with $63.5 million guaranteed to complete the trade with the Seahawks.

The Chiefs are sending a 2019 first-round pick and a 2020 second-round pick to the Seahawks for Clark with the two teams also exchanging third-round picks this year.

This contract puts Clark in line with Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence and among the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL.

The Chiefs had been looking to replace Dee Ford with someone who would be a better fit in Steve Spagnuolo’s base defense and it appears as though they felt this was the best way to upgrade their pass rush.

Clark, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.732 million contract and set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2018 season.

In 2018, Clark appeared in all 16 games for the Seahawks and recorded 41 tackles, 13 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, two recoveries and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 18 overall edge defender out of 103 qualifying players.
