Panthers HC Matt Rhule said on Tuesday he’s not expecting RB Christian McCaffrey to play Saturday against the Packers, per Joe Person.
McCaffrey would have been limited with a quad injury had the Panthers done more than a walkthrough practice Tuesday. He missed last week’s game against the Broncos after injuring himself over the bye.
Person notes Rhule left the door open to McCaffrey playing if he is able to run at Wednesday’s practice.
The star runner for the Panthers previously missed a month this season with a high ankle sprain before being injured again in his first game back, separating his shoulder against the Chiefs.
McCaffrey, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Panthers back in 2017. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $17.224 million contract when the Panthers signed him to a new four-year, $64 million contract extension that also included his expected fifth-year option.
In 2020, McCaffrey has appeared in three games for the Panthers and rushed 59 times for 225 yards (3.8 YPC) and five touchdowns, adding 17 receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown.
We’ll have more on McCaffrey as the news is available.
