According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, veteran Kย Adam Vinatieri is interested in returning for the 2019 season and sources have told him the Colts would like to re-sign him this offseason.
Last week,ย Vinatieri told reporters that if the team wants him back next year, “[he]ย canโt imagine (I’d) not keep playing.”
โIf theyโre wanting, I canโt imagine (Iโd) not keep playing, you know?โ Vinatieri said, via the Indy Star. โI havenโt made the decision yet. Iโll spend a week or two and just kind of see where weโre at.โ
Even so, Vinatieri says he plans to take some time to make a decision.
โI never want to make a decision on a day like today, one way or another,โ Vinatieri said. โThatโs emotional. Youโre not thinking through stuff.โ
Colts GM Chris Ballard mentioned that he plans to meet with Vinatieri on Tuesday.
Vinatieri, 46, originally signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota State back in 1996. He played seven years in New England before signing on with the Colts in 2006.
Since then, Vinatieri has played another 13 years in Indianapolis and is in position to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.
In 2018, Vinatieri appeared in 16 games for the Colts and converted 23 of 27 field goal attempts (85.2 percent) to go along with 44 of 47 extra point tries (93.6 percent).
