Colts Place TE Trey Burton On Injured Reserve

The Colts announced they have placed TE Trey Burton on injured reserve to free up the roster spot for DT Eli Ankou

Burton is dealing with a calf injury that’s expected to keep him out for at least a couple weeks. Under the NFL’s new injured reserve rules for 2020, Burton must spend a minimum of three weeks on the list before being activated.

Burton, 28, wound up signing on with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Florida back in 2014. He played out his three-year, $1,537,500 contract with the Eagles before returning to Philadelphia on a one-year restricted deal in 2017.

Burton later signed a four-year, $32 million contract with the Bears as an unrestricted free agent in 2018. Chicago released him with a post-June 1 designation earlier this offseason and he quickly caught on with the Colts.

In 2019, Burton appeared in eight games and recorded 14 receptions for 84 yards receiving (6.0 YPC) and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 63 overall tight end out of 70 qualifying players.
