The Colts announced Monday they’ve signed QB Chad Kelly and waived DT Jordan Thompson in a corresponding move.
The Colts had previously hosted Kelly for a tryout during rookie minicamp. While the signing had been “percolating” for a while according to Stephen Holder, this makes it official.
Kelly, 25, is a former seventh-round pick of the Broncos back in 2017. He signed a four-year, $2.464 million contract that included a $64,270 signing bonus, but was waived in October of last year after being arrested on a charge of first-degree criminal trespassing.
Last month, Kelly pleaded guilty to misdemeanor second-degree criminal trespassing and was sentenced to one year of supervised probation and 50 hours of community service. He had the first-degree felony first-degree criminal trespassing charge was dropped as part of the plea agreement.
During his college career, Kelly threw for 6,858 yards while completing 63.9 percent of his passes to go along with 50 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.
