Contract Talks Between The Buccaneers & DT Roy Miller Have “Broken Off”

Stephen Holder of theย Tampa Bay Timesย reports that the Buccaneers and impending free agentย DT Roy Miller have “broken off” talks regarding a long-term extension.

Holder adds that the two sides areย “seemingly far apart.”

“Roy is excited to see what’s out there for him in free agency,” said agent Mike McCartney.ย โ€œHe has a lot to offer after an excellent season, helping a team that was last against the run (in 2011) go to No. 1 against the run last season.โ€

Miller, 25, graded out as a below average defensive tackle, according to Pro Football Focus. While his agent isย trumpetingย the fact that the Buccaneers were the No. 1 run defense last season, a lot of their success stems from Gerald McCoy who comes in as the No. 2 best defensive tackle in the league, per PFF.

There’s a chance Miller could find some interest on the open market, but it’s doubtful he’ll be able to secure a sizable contract like the one that was handed out to Paul Soliai last year.

We have Miller listed as the No. 95 best available player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
